In-line with its overall ethos, Google rewards high-quality content – however it’s created. Using it to create a tonne of content to spam the internet with is where things become a problem. And it’s these spammers, like armies of real people once did, who will be penalised for littering the internet with useless click-bate (and now propaganda) material generated by AI instead of people. So don’t do that. Otherwise, Google’s angle on AI is:“AI has the ability to power new levels of expression and creativity, and to serve as a critical tool to help people create great content for the web.” Google. So, what’s all the fuss about? Is it because content creators are fearful of being replaced by robots? Well, there is that. The debate bit:But the hard truth here is that it’s part of our new era, like the Industrial Revolution saw millions of workers retired from manual labour as automated production lines and machines rendered them all but useless. However, other jobs were created as we entered that era. This is one of those times, and it’s already referred to as the digital era, the AI Revolution, and we’re in it, like it or not.Adapting is and Always has been Key to our SurvivalThe question for creatives could be: how can I adapt? And the answer is: embrace the technologies at your fingertips – we create, and now we can do it super-fast, bringing our overactive imaginations into form, using a tool that can keep up with our thoughts. Personally, I know for a fact I would struggle to find a human who could type out the thoughts in my head in real-time and articulate them in a way I asked them to. Besides, artificial intelligence isn’t anything new, (it’s older than me) it’s just taken a while to step into the limelight. And it’s made one hell of an entrance!Use AI to produce first drafts, then edit and rewrite. Many LLMs (large language models) like Chat GPT, Gemini, etc. often produce content that can start to sound the same and become easy to spot – a bit like hearing a familiar voice. This is where rewriting it comes in useful, and where we retain our personalities and the creative flair that makes our human hearts beat faster. AI is a creative tool you could be using to put your writing on steroids, a 21st-century word processer. And for anyone with challenges around getting their words out there, like writing the book they’ve long dreamed about, this tool will help make those dreams come true. If it had existed when I wrote my first book, I would have saved years of my life. Today, it helps my business deliver affordable content solutions to my customers. However, AI-generated content still benefits from a few tweaks and rewrites, adding our fine human touch.Benefits of Rewriting AI-Generated ContentImproved readability: Rewriting AI-generated content can make it more readable and easier for your readers to understand. For example, if the AI-written piece produced has the tone of an academic professor, it probably won’t gel with a teen audience discussing the latest gaming trends. Of course, you can always tweak the prompt and request it be written for a teen audience – we’ll go deeper on prompts in another article.Increased engagement: Rewriting AI-generated content can make it more engaging and interesting for your readers. We can use the same teen audience example, but try adding some interesting insight to help connect better. This could be an interesting funny fact (which you will research), or drawing comparisons to whatever era you grew up in and how things have changed – make it more human!Enhanced credibility: Rewriting AI-generated content can make your content more credible and trustworthy. Also, it will help improve your writing skills (during editing), and improve your subject knowledge as you fact-check. Conclusion: AI Rocks, but…While AI is a powerful tool that can generate more content faster, it’s important to remember that AI-generated content is not a substitute for human-written content, but facilitates it.
